Between the 24th and 26th of October, 2BFOREST hosted in Portugal 12 FAIRshare colleagues for the FAIRshare cross-visit to present the user-case Ecosystem Services powered by ForestSIM®, which aims to extend the implementation of the FSC Ecosystem Services Procedure with the help of DATS. The CV hosted 6 different usercases – Teagasc, LAAS, Cajamar, AEIDT, WODR and EPC – and included the participation of a member of our forest certification group, FSC Portugal and the Center for Forestry Studies (CEF – Centro de Estudos Florestais), from the Lisbon University School of Agriculture (ISA – Instituto Superior de Agronomia).
During the three days visit, we had the opportunity to show the challenges that the 2B_Forest_Group management encounters, but also to demonstrate how ForestSIM® facilitates communication and joint work between the 2BFOREST consultancy team and the members of the certification groups.
The participants also visited the Herdade das Sesmarias da Batalha, in Alcácer do Sal, an agroforestry property certified by 2BFOREST since 2018, and discovered the typical Alentejo landscape of cork oak and holm oak forest – the montado. At the Sesmarias we were able to show them how we use ForestSIM on site, using tablets, and the participants had the opportunity to discuss with the forest owner the main advantages of being a member of the 2B_Forest_Group. For the last day, and to encourage the discussion in the final workshops, we visited ISA and had the opportunity to learn about forest models and how to apply them on DATS, through stand productivity simulators, such as WebGlobulus.
